Seven Most Affordable Used Electric Vehicles You Can Buy In Ontario

Electric vehicles have been around for more than a decade, and with so many advantages to driving an EV, it’s no surprise that a substantial number of people are making the switch. Nowadays, it’s very likely that you’ll see at least one electric vehicle on the roads in Ontario.

Driving EVs results in low greenhouse gas emissions as EVs do not rely on the combustion of fossil fuels for propulsion. In addition, there will be significant savings down the road due to lower electricity costs. A Canadian who drives 20,000 kilometres per year can save up to $2,000 per year by driving an EV. However, EVs are typically more expensive than their gasoline counterparts. On the other hand, gas prices have skyrocketed lately, and electric vehicles are in high demand across Canada as a result of the country’s volatile gas prices. It’s very likely you will expect a long delay if you order an electric vehicle, and this is especially true for a popular name like Tesla. If you have a smaller budget and don’t want to wait for weeks for a brand new EV, used electric vehicles can be a great option that is affordable and often has better values.

In this blog, we will look at the seven cheapest used electric vehicles you can buy in Ontario, Canada.

The Nissan Leaf

Nissan pioneered mass manufacture of this low-cost EV more than a decade ago. The Nissan Leaf is a low-cost electric vehicle with user-friendly technology and outstanding driver assistance features from Nissan. It’s an excellent solution for individuals who don’t require long-distance range and want to avoid paying extra for a range they don’t use. The Leaf comes with a slew of high-tech driver-assistance systems, including a semi-autonomous driving mode, and the cabin is both pleasant and capacious.

The standard Nissan Leaf SV has an all-electric range of 243 km thanks to its 40 kWh battery and 147 hp. It can be charged in eight hours at home to a Level 2 outlet, or up to 80 per cent capacity in 30 minutes at a DC fast charger.

Each electric vehicle at Carnex is fully inspected by our experienced EV technicians, ensuring each and every EV is safe to drive and squeaky clean.

Used Electric Vehicle

Kia Soul EV

Because of its effortless manoeuvrability and smooth ride, the Kia Soul EV has earned the moniker “urban hatchback.” It is a small electric crossover SUV with plenty of space and a comfortable interior for 5 passengers. The Soul, which was introduced in 2014, is equipped with clever hybrid technology that may further cut fuel consumption in all conditions. The Kia Soul’s 27kWh battery pack allows it to travel up to 150 kilometres on a single charge. The Kia Soul has a DC fast-charging connector and can charge completely in 5 hours at 240 volts.

e-Golf by Volkswagen

The Volkswagen Golf EV is the zero-emissions version of the popular Golf. It has a reputation for being enjoyable and comfortable to drive. That is also the case with the Volkswagen Golf GTE, a plug-in hybrid. A lithium-ion battery powers the e-100 Golf’s kW electric motor. The longest travel distance of the e-Golf is estimated to be 133 kilometres. If you only need an electric car in this range for a daily commute and errands, you can find the e-Golf at a reasonable price on the used electric vehicle market in Ontario.

Hyundai Ioniq Electric

The Hyundai Ioniq Electric is a low-cost compact hatchback, with a used price ranging from $20,000 to $30,000 on the used electric vehicle market in Canada. It has a 28 kWh battery pack and can go 274 kilometres on a single charge. Hyundai Ioniq Electric is great for electric-vehicle purchasers who don’t require a long driving range because it’s one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market. A single charge at 240 volts takes roughly four hours and can cover up to 200 kilometres.

MINI Cooper SE

The MINI Cooper SE is one of the smallest 4-passenger electric vehicles, with a classic 2-door style and minimal cargo room. At the same time, the Cooper MINI can reach 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds thanks to its 199 lb-ft torque and 181 horsepower. Its 32 kWh battery is capable of up to 177 km in driving range, but full charging takes about 8 hours. A DC charger allows for quick charging; it can reach 80% in just 35 minutes.

The Cooper SE Electric isn’t the type of vehicle you’d want for a large family, but it will surely appeal to a younger audience in a city setting. Although this EV may not be the finest in terms of performance, the price is quite reasonable, brand new MINI Cooper SE starts at only $39,990, and the used price ranges between $20,000 and $28,000, making the Copper SE the runner-up for the cheapest EV in Canada.

BMW i3

BMW introduced the i3 in 2013, with a 21.6-kilowatt-hour battery pack that provided between 130 and 160 kilometres of battery range. After BMW installed a 33.2-kilowatt-hour battery pack in 2017, the battery range rose to 200 kilometres.

If you want an electric car with a sleek and upmarket cabin, the i3 is well worth considering. The i3 is an appealing and reasonably priced choice, and it is the only EV on this list with an optional gasoline-powered engine to provide an additional range.

Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Vehicle 3 is the most affordable Tesla model offered in Canada. Its pricing is set at an affordable level, despite its great performance and extensive driving range. Currently, car shoppers are willing to pay a premium for a used Tesla Model 3 rather than wait months for a new model to arrive. Given that the Tesla Model 3 is the cheapest Tesla model available, its performance and driveability features have a high resale value in used versions. In the used electric vehicle market in Ontario, we may find slightly used Model 3 venisons sold for anywhere between $58,000 and $91,000.
