Tesla Canada has begun rolling out the 2025.38 software update, introducing one of its most visually impressive navigation features yet — 3D Building Maps.
This update brings a richer, more immersive experience to Tesla’s in-car navigation, displaying realistic three-dimensional cityscapes directly on the vehicle’s touchscreen.

The new feature enhances Tesla’s user interface and strengthens the company’s push to make driving smarter, more intuitive, and more visually engaging — a direction that also benefits the used Tesla market in Canada, as even pre-owned Teslas continue to receive over-the-air (OTA) software upgrades.

3D City Maps Come to Tesla Canada

With 3D Buildings enabled, Tesla’s navigation system now renders urban areas in full depth, showing outlines and heights of skyscrapers, city blocks, towers, and even residential houses.
This feature improves spatial awareness in busy downtown cores and adds a sleek, modern aesthetic that aligns perfectly with Tesla’s minimalist UI design.

According to Tesla’s release notes, drivers can enable 3D Buildings by switching to Map View and tapping the 3D icon.
This enhancement is part of the Premium Connectivity package, which also includes:

  • Live traffic visualization

  • Satellite-view maps

  • In-car video streaming

For Canadian Tesla owners — and especially those exploring used Teslas in Canada — this update highlights Tesla’s long-term software support, one of the biggest reasons used Tesla vehicles hold such strong resale value.

A More Realistic Driving Experience

Early users have compared the new 3D map view to Google Earth, noting smoother transitions and improved depth perception when zooming or rotating the map.
This makes navigation more intuitive, particularly in complex urban environments like Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal.

Behind the scenes, Tesla’s navigation still relies on OpenStreetMap data, but the visual rendering layer has been upgraded to use Google’s 3D mapping imagery.

Hardware Support and Availability

The new 3D Building Maps feature is supported on:

  • AI3/HW3 and AI4/HW4 vehicles

  • Equipped with AMD Ryzen processors

As with most Tesla updates, the 2025.38 rollout is being deployed gradually, currently reaching around 2% of the fleet, with broader availability expected in the coming days.

For many owners shopping for a used Tesla Model Y or Model 3, this also underscores how even pre-owned Teslas benefit from Tesla’s ongoing software ecosystem — something rarely matched by other automakers.

Laying the Groundwork for Future Tesla Features

While primarily a visual enhancement, this update also shows Tesla’s continued investment in contextual awareness within its in-car software.

By combining real-time traffic data, AI-assisted route planning, and detailed 3D maps, Tesla is paving the way for next-generation navigation features, including:

  • Visually guided Full Self-Driving (FSD) map overlays, coming in future releases

Together, these improvements will enhance the Tesla driving experience for both new and used Tesla owners across Canada.

Grok and Beyond

Alongside the new 3D Maps feature, the 2025.38 update also introduced Grok, the conversational AI assistant developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, now officially available for Tesla owners in Canada.
